Isei Tokovou from Papeete – FSA President Isei Tokovou travelled to French Polynesia recently with the kind support of the Fiji National Sports Commission. His mission there was to study the Tahitian surfing development program, as well as their capacity in hosting the ASP world title event. He arrived for the last two days of competition in the Billabong Tahiti Pro & stayed on for a weekend to have meetings with Philippe Klima – the Federation Tahitienne de Surf President and their technical trainer, Pascal Luciani.
There were discussions about the Tahitian Water Patrol & the suggestion that they could come over and conduct training for the Fijian jet ski team, just as the Hawaiian’s did ten years ago for the Tahitians. Tahiti was also amenable to the Fijians coming over to compete in local Tahitian competitions including the Tahiti Pro Trials.
Said Isei, “I wish to thank very much Philippe Klima & Pascal Luciani of the Federation Tahitienne de Surf. The Tahitian people and the other volunteers of the Federation opened their hearts and their houses to me during my visit. Solidarity & mutual pathways for Fijian and Tahitian surfing are strong, & logical for the further development of surfing in Oceania – of this I am proud to be a part of.”
