Keen young surfers congregated at Natadola Beach on Saturday 30th of June to participate in the Fiji Surfing Association (FSA) junior development event.
FSA President, John Philp, said the association “recognizes the importance of focusing on youth development in order to shape the future of surfing in Fiji”.
Mr. Philp went on to say, “the juniors are the future of Fiji surfing and FSA needs to support their development and provide them with opportunities to enhance and develop their own style and skills”. The FSA also used the day’s events to identify talented youngsters who could receive extra support.

Christian Surfers Fiji supplied a fabulous BBQ lunch for all the surfers and spectators as well as transport for many of the competitors. FSA Contest Director Teh Chung, coordinated the event and FSA judges and coordinators; Kape Koliniwasawasa, Romeo McKellar, Kris Stice, Wily Simpson, Isao Ishiara, Cliff Whiting and Cassie Thomas did a great job and were all impressed by the level of talent on display. The keen young participants, some younger than 10, came from Sanasana Village, Pacific Harbour, Suva and Nadi to have a go in the day’s events.

Many thanks to Dave Leed for donating three surfboards to the FSA that were awarded to the winners of the event. We would like to extend our thanks to the parents and the Sanasana village community for allowing the children to compete. Congratulations to winners; Mark Wakeham (Boys), Sala (Girls) and Jone (11-14years). Prizes were awarded to the most improved surfer, best wipeout and top three surfers in each division, thanks to our sponsors of the event : Adrenalin, Go Surf Fiji and McDonalds.
Congratulations to the competitors and the FSA volunteers for a very successful day of surfing.
